How I work
My approach is relational, person-centred and mindfulness-informed.
I believe counselling is not about someone telling you what to do. It is a process we enter into together.
We may explore your emotional experience, relationships, patterns, strengths and the ways you have learned to respond to life.
My mindfulness training includes active meditation and body awareness. When appropriate, we may use gentle breathing, movement and attention to physical sensations to notice how emotions show up in the body. This somatic-informed approach can help you connect with your experience at a pace that feels safe and useful.
Most importantly, I aim to create a space where you feel heard, respected and able to be yourself.
Addiction, recovery and family support
Addiction can affect much more than substance use itself. It can influence relationships, trust, identity, family roles and emotional wellbeing.
Counselling can provide space to explore the changes that come with recovery, rebuilding trust, developing healthier coping strategies and making sense of life beyond addiction.
I also welcome partners and family members affected by someone else’s alcohol or other drug use.
Supporting someone you care about can bring worry, frustration, guilt, confusion and exhaustion. Counselling can provide a space to focus on your own wellbeing, boundaries, relationships and needs.
A culturally sensitive approach
Culture, family and life experience all shape how we understand ourselves and our relationships.
I am particularly interested in the experience of navigating different cultural expectations, family responsibilities, belonging, identity and finding your own voice.
You are welcome to bring all parts of your experience into our work.
I offer counselling in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Hakka and Malay. My experience with addiction and recovery may be especially helpful for people seeking support across languages and cultural contexts, including those with ties to Australia, China, Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan.
About Meera
I am a qualified counsellor and member of the Australian Counselling Association (ACA), with more than 15 years of experience in mindfulness practice and teaching.
My counselling work is grounded in relational practice, self-awareness and genuine human connection.
My professional training and clinical experience have included work with relationships, emotional wellbeing, life transitions and alcohol and other drug recovery.
I value therapy that feels thoughtful, collaborative and human rather than distant or overly clinical.
Online counselling
Individual online counselling
50-minute session
$150 AUD
Sessions are by appointment.
Before beginning therapy, we will discuss confidentiality, privacy, consent, payment and the practical arrangements for online counselling.
Your First Session
The first session is an opportunity for us to begin getting to know one another.
You can share what has been happening in your life, what has brought you to counselling and what you hope may be different.
You do not need to arrive with a perfectly defined goal.
We can take time to understand what you are experiencing and consider together how counselling may support you.
Finding the right counsellor is also important. The first session gives you an opportunity to experience how it feels to talk with me and whether my approach feels right for you.
